Asuzena: Is It Legal?
I have a confession to make. Yes, I am guilty. I admit that once in my life I have eaten ASUZENA (I am not sure if this is the correct spelling). But that was long time ago already. I would never eat it again. Asuzena is local delicacy which utilizes DOG MEAT as its main ingredient. You read it right. Dog meat is sometimes prepared as pulutan and in fact in some localities here in the Philippines it is regarded that much as compared to pork and beef. Very recently, a truckload of dogs have been rescued from being slaughtered and cooked into ASUZENA. The persons behind this were all apprehended and appropriate charges were filed against them. What is/are the violation/s faced by these people if any? According to Republic Act Number 8485 or otherwise known as "The Animal Welfare Act of 1998", it is UNLAWFUL to kill or cause or procure to be tortured dogs for this matter.
